Vlado Korcek - Beings

The series Beings was preceded by installations of ceramic figures fired in open flames and set into various structures. These installations reflected deeply personal themes, which is probably why I never presented them publicly.

During the pandemic, while walking, I began encountering beings that seemed to have stepped out of the world of my ceramic scenes. These beings came to life and spoke to me. I started collecting them, creating new scenes, connections, and stories.

My first choice was photographic portraits, but they didn’t feel right. In the end, the “wood drawing” — a very shallow relief — proved to be the ideal form. This technique, combining natural material with a high degree of manual effort, turned out to be exactly what I had been seeking for these beings.

I discovered the beings through intuitive observation, and I believe they can serve as a reminder that it is always worth slowing down and perceiving our surroundings through the eyes of a new person — or an alien.
